Caffeine in energy drinks
A single can runs from 80 mg to 200 mg. The number on the label is honest, the serving size is where people get caught.
| Drink | Serving | Caffeine | Time to clear | Latest for an 11 pm bedtime |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Celsius | 12 oz can (355 ml) | 199 mg | 13 and a half hours | 9:36 am |
| Alani Nu | 12 oz can (355 ml) | 199 mg | 13 and a half hours | 9:36 am |
| Monster | 16.9 oz can (500 ml) | 160 mg | 11 and a half hours | 11:24 am |
| Rockstar | 16 oz can (473 ml) | 151 mg | 11 hours | 11:53 am |
| Red Bull | 8.4 oz can (250 ml) | 80 mg | 6 hours | 5:06 pm |
Energy drinks are the easiest way to cross the 400 mg daily limit without noticing, because a can is finished in minutes and nobody counts it as coffee. Two 500 ml Monsters and one coffee is already 400 mg. They also land fast: carbonation and an empty stomach push the peak closer to 30 minutes than 45. The caffeine in these cans is the same molecule as in coffee, and taurine, B vitamins and guarana do not change how long it stays in you.
